The Pyramid Texts are the oldest known corpus of ancient Egyptian religious texts dating to the Old Kingdom. Written in Old Egyptian, the pyramid texts were carved onto the subterranean walls and sarcophagi of pyramids at Saqqara from the end of the Fifth Dynasty, and throughout the Sixth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom, and into the Eighth Dynasty of the First Intermediate Period.

jeebus, what a slog. so the egyptians believed the One-God could elevate their leaders to lesser-godhood and make him one of the pantheon. interdasting, because the jews couldn't eliminate this idea completely from their religion. food offerings, chants, and devout repetition in execution. moses and david were raised to demi-god status in spite of their horrific evils. they were given limited authority of god, much like the delegation of demi-god authority in egyptian religion. moses ordering ex...more
I wouldn't say this was a 'good' book so I didn't rate it very high but the fact that it exists and hasn't been lost to the ages is simply amazing. Reading this just for the historical perspective is worth it.
